Fountain Clock at Osaka Station

I first saw one of these as an art installation at Washington University in St. Louis when I was a student there. They used a computer to control the drops and the display would pick words at random from news stories around the world. I think I like this real world application much better. I wish we had one of these at Union Square.

Who Needs a Recording Studio? I Have an iPad!

As a full-fledged music-tech-nerd, I must say this sweet piece of gear makes my mouth water a little bit. It's so amazing that from the ages of the old Studer tape machines (the size of a large refrigerator or stove), we've come down to an iPad and this, the Alesis iO Dock. I just wonder if the iPad is powerful enough to crunch the numbers necessary to give you a great mix. I like to use a LOT of plug-ins... For only $200, you can bet the pres and the AD/DA converters aren't the slickest in the world, but I bet if you know what you're doing, you can make some amazing recordings with this rig.
