Koreans Wage Internet War Upon 2ch, FBI on the Case
Well, when on the internet Korea and Japan seem to be perpetually at war, but a more severe blow was dealt against Glorious Server-Downed Nippon apparently after a group of South Korean netizens orchestrated a Denial-of-Service attack upon 2ch's servers, most of which are located in the US and run by San Francisco-based Pacific Internet Exchange.
PIE tallied up the damage at an estimated $2.5 million and intends for the FBI to investigate the incident as an act of cyber-terrorism.
Supposedly the trigger for the attack was a celebration of Korea's March 1st independence day, as well as in retaliation for criticism of figure skater Kim Yu-Na's performance at the Olympics. While the typical internet responses, such a Japanese counterinvasion of Korean message boards, occurred, a few other 2channers rallied a strange, positively-twisted version of "Pay it Forward," by putting together a relief fund for victims of the recent Chilean earthquake.
I don't really see how the two incidents are in any way related, but a video released on Youtube (that you can see below) proclaims it as "The Japanese Way."
